We’re very pleased to announce our new patient portal where you can send a message to your doctor, schedule appointments, pay your bill and more.
Learn about the ease, comfort, safety and convenience of our expanding list of in-office procedures.
Why Choose an Office Based Procedure?
- Comfortable: Receive care from your entire healthcare team including not only your provider but also all of the staff you have come to know
- Convenient: No hospital parking, no hospital bureaucracy, no hospital or facility fees
- Minimally invasive: Quicker recovery and less risk compared to many hospital based procedures
- Cost Effective: Depending on one’s insurance, office based procedures often cost only your office co-pay instead of counting against a large deductible
Essure As A Method Of Permanent Contraception
Essure is a permanent birth control procedure that works with your body to create a barrier to prevent pregnancy. The Essure procedure offers benefits that no other birth control can. Performed here in our office, there are no hormones and most women return to normal activities within a day.
Compared to a tubal ligation, Essure is less invasive, safer and considerably more cost effective. To learn more, please click here to be directed to the Essure website.
Endometrial Ablation to Treat Heavy Periods
Endometrial ablation is a medical procedure performed in our office that is used to remove (ablate) or destroy the endometrial lining of the uterus. This technique is most often employed for people who suffer from excessive or prolonged bleeding during their menstrual cycle, but cannot or do not wish to undergo a hysterectomy. The procedure is done on an outpatient basis. Endometrial ablation is reserved for women who have completed child bearing.
Hysteroscopy is used to evaluate abnormal bleeding including potential causes such as a polyp or a fibroid. Traditionally, this has been done in the hospital or surgical centers, but now is being offered in our office.
A tiny camera is inserted through the vagina and cervix into the endometrial cavity of the uterus to review the patient’s condition. We can then sample the lining of the uterus (a D&C procedure) and remove a small amount of tissue to examine under a microscope for any abnormalities, particularly to exclude cancerous or precancerous changes. If a polyp is noted, we can also remove it at the same time.
LEEPs For Cervical Abnormalities
Loop electrosurgical excision procedure (LEEP) uses a wire loop heated by electric current to remove cells and tissue from the middle portion of the cervix as part of the diagnosis and treatment of abnormal or pre-cancerous conditions in a woman’s lower genital tract.
With LEEP, an electric current passes through the fine wire loop to cut away a thin layer of abnormal tissue. This tissue will be sent to the lab for examination. LEEP can also remove abnormal cells to allow healthy tissue to grow. So the goal is two fold: to get rid of the abnormality and to make sure there is nothing more concerning than what has already been detected.
Comprehensive obstetrical care
We offer comprehensive obstetrical care from preconceptual counseling through the postpartum period.
Modern midwifery care in the Triangle Area
In the fall of 2011 Durham’s Women’s Health Alliance and Chapel Hill OB/GYN joined together to offer midwifery care. Our mission is to provide the most comprehensive midwifery care in the Triangle Area for expectant mothers and women planning on pregnancy. Midwifery at Women’s Health Alliance offices conveniently located in Chapel Hill, Durham and the Brier Creek area of Raleigh.
Preventative care and comprehensive treatment
In addition to preventative health care (including administration of the HPV vaccine), we care for patients facing numerous gynecologic issues. If and when surgery is required, our physicians are trained in minimally invasive, state of the art techniques.
Helping patients stay healthy
A core part of our specialty is to help patients stay healthy and to address health challenges at an early stage for optimal treatment. To that end, we offer annual health maintenance visits for all ages.
Evaluation, diagnosis and treatment
Infertility has become increasingly common with our child-bearing population. Our evaluation, counseling, management and treatment experience helps immeasurably with this frustrating health issue.
State of the art equipment
We provide state of the art ultrasound, complete with 3D/4D technology which allows us to offer comprehensive obstetric and gynecologic ultrasounds.
Patients enjoy the convenience of our office laboratory. We provide immediate results for pregnancy tests, urinalysis and CBC among others.
Because we are well grounded in the community, we have several generations of patients. Our size allows us to offer creature comforts you will not find at the large academic practices and our staff remember not only our patients’ names, but their individual situations, conditions, who referred them and who their family members are. All these things add up to a great community practice.
